The title is taken from one of Tamil poet Bharathiyar's poems.Cinematographer Ravi Varman and lyricist Vairamuthu are part of this Mani Ratnam project, which will be produced by Madras Talkies and released by Sri Thenandal Films.

According to reports, Karthi is playing the role of a pilot and has to follow a weight loss regime to fit the role perfectly. We have learnt that the team is working round the clock to release Kaatru Veliyidai by the end of this year.
